Landscape Designers' Favorite Holiday: Happy Earth Day

by Danielle, Design Director
Envision Landscape Studio

This Earth Day feels like the perfect time to share a little more about who we are, what we believe in, and why sustainability is woven into every design decision we make here at Envision Landscape Studio.

There’s so much to explore on this topic — it’s truly the root of my passion as a land designer. And that’s a great place for us to start: purpose.

Yes, we love aesthetically pleasing gardens and functional spaces that meet a family’s needs. But there can also be an anchoring thought and intention behind the creation of that beauty. Our studio philosophy centers around what we call Envision’s Ethos. As land designers, we feel a deep responsibility to use this internal compass to guide us toward designs that are as environmentally intelligent as they are functionally beautiful. Simply put: built to last and designed to flow with the seasons of life.

It’s not about being perfect — it’s about being intentional.
— Envision’s Ethos:
  • Working with the land, not against it — from demo stages through grading and drainage, we design for long-term soil health and foundational integrity.

  • Embracing natural materials, always — and staying continuously educated on what works best with the elements.

  • Selecting native and climate-adapted plants that thrive in California’s unique environment, using water-wise strategies and thoughtful irrigation.

  • Prioritizing biodiversity, layering in plants that attract birds, butterflies, and bees.

Today’s clients are asking smarter questions — and we’re here for it. The most common thread we hear is that people are choosing Envision specifically for landscapes that are functional, timeless, and aligned with their values. They want outdoor spaces that support pollinators, minimize waste, and still reflect their personal style.

From low-input gardens that practically care for themselves, to elevated outdoor living rooms paved in raw, textural stone — the best designs today are those that bring form and function together in thoughtful ways.

We see it every day: when design is rooted in ecology, it resonates deeper. It becomes a space that just feels right.

Now, let’s talk about one of the biggest topics in the industry: materials. And I’ll say it again (and again): materials matter.

We’re proud to work with hand-selected vendors who share our Earth-first approach. One of our favorites is Eco Outdoor. Their selection of natural stone and architectural finishes allows us to design spaces that feel raw, refined, and deeply connected to the land they sit on. Eco Outdoor’s materials help us build landscapes that are beautiful today — and even more compelling tomorrow. That kind of honesty in material is something we’ll always stand behind.

At the end of the day, we’re here to design landscapes that mean something — places where memories are made, where ecosystems thrive, and where the Earth is respected.

If you’re dreaming of a landscape that reflects who you are and what you believe in, we’d love to start that conversation.

This Earth Day, we’re celebrating the landscapes that give back — and the people who care enough to make that possible.

Now, go get outside.
