Happy Valley

Nestled in the valley of Lafayette, this landscape design transforms a private residence into a retreat for wellness, recreation, and sustainability. Most important to the overall design was to integrate sustainable practices to create a balanced lifestyle of indoor to outdoor living.

We bring this vision to life with a thoughtfully placed Labyrinth meditation path. Repurposing material from the interior floor of the primary suite into the path, leads to the couples’ private hot tub. Surrounded by the seclusion of towering redwoods the extension of the home was created in thought of rejuvenation and relaxation.

The design continues to unfold with spaces that bring people together. A salt treated pool becomes the centerpiece for activity and relaxation, while an authentic Italian bocce ball court encourages playful gatherings with family and friends. As guests enter the home they are welcomed with a full garden complete with a mix of fresh vegetables, fragrant herbs, citrus trees, and vibrant flowers. Just a few steps away, a seasonal pollinator garden was created to bloom throughout the four seasons of our California coastal weather. This has lead the pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds come to explore the garden.

Every element flows with intention, and water becomes the landscape’s connective thread. Sustainability, woven throughout the design, ensures this retreat honors the land it inhabits. A greywater irrigation system, the first of its kind for the project, recycles water from the home and redirects it to nourish the gardens. Native plantings, including oaks and bay laurels, anchor the design in the local ecosystem, supporting wildlife and protecting the delicate balance of the adjacent creek. The result is a lush, thriving landscape that respects the resources it relies on. This property is more than a backyard transformation; it’s a story of mindful living.
